The Vishnu-devananda Yoga Vedanta Center is a Sangha or spiritual home dedicated to the practice and teaching of the various aspects of yoga and Vedanta philosophy for enhancing physical and mental balance and developing inner peace.
We are affiliated with the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers which was founded by our late Master, Swami Vishnu-devananda, a world-renown teacher of yoga and peace activist. Founded in May 2001, the center offers classical yoga, meditation, philosophy, and Sanskrit classes and intensives in Berkeley, as well as annual retreats in the Himalayas, North India. Our classes follow a classical approach (Sivananda tradition) and are taught in the spirit of Karma Yoga, or selfless service.
The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers has Yoga centers and Ashrams (retreats) around the world, and offers Yoga Teacher Training courses as well as work-study and staff programs. The nearest Sivananda Center locations are the San Francisco Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center and the Sivananda Ashram Vrindavan Yoga Farm in Grass Valley, CA.
As a spiritual center, our major goal is spiritual practice and service. Our ongoing yoga classes and day-long retreats are offered on a donation basis. Although we list the donations expected for courses, those who are unable to afford these amounts are welcome to join these on a donation basis as well.
